Ronin International (NZ) Limited is a specialist investigation and risk consultancy which is based in Christchurch, New Zealand, and was established by David Haslett in 2000 on the back of nearly 33 years operational police service as a career detective in the New Zealand Police. David was the overall commissioned officer in charge of the Christchurch Criminal Investigation branch at the time of his retirement. Clients will benefit from his extensive investigative experience and from a comprehensive network of well placed contacts across the community, in the corporate sector and within government departments and agencies.
Experienced in all aspects of homicide investigation, David is also a specialist fire and post blast investigator. He has extensive experience in the conducting and management of major criminal investigations and incidents in a multi-agency environment and is a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), a member of the Fire Investigators Association of New Zealand Inc. (FIANZ), and is a foundation member of the Independent Forensic Practitioners Institute [Inc]. (IFPI).
David is a New Scotland Yard trained hostage negotiator, and is a very experienced counter terrorism specialist. He is the former commander of the Christchurch Police Armed Offenders Squad and the South Island section of the New Zealand Police Anti Terrorist Squad (now Special Tactics Group or STG). He was a tactical advisor to the New Zealand Police counter-terrorism cadre, and is also the former commander of the Christchurch Police Negotiation Team. In 1996, David was awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship to travel to North America to study arson and post-blast investigation techniques with a number of significant government departments and agencies. He has subsequently lectured at tertiary institutions in New Zealand on terrorism, risk and gang culture.
David is a senior associate with the Seattle based international risk consultancy, The Cromwell Group, LLC, and is a regional kidnap and extortion responder for the specialist UK based business risk and intelligence company, The Inkerman Group. His unique offshore investigative experience (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia & the United Arab Emirates) and extensive international travel has resulted in his establishing valuable influential contacts in many international law enforcement and foreign government agencies.
David has a first-class honours degree, a MA with distinction, and is currently completing a Ph.D via the 'The Stout Research Centre for New Zealand Studies' which is part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Victoria University of Wellington. He is a member of the Association of Social Anthropologists of Aotearoa/New Zealand Inc. (ASAANZ).
